The Salkantay Trek, Peru August 16, 2019 September 7, 2019 by Eileen Brisbine On Monday at 7am, we headed to the airport. 26 hours and 4 flights later, we landed in Cusco, Peru. 16 hours later, we were picked up in a van and off to our first trek: The Salkantay Trek. Salkantay Pass (15,213') is the highest point of our trek. Once we crest it we'll start heading down and in fact Wayra Lodge (our destination today) is about the the same elevation as Salkantay Lodge. This is the day where we will join to the classic Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu and we will see hikers going in the same direction as we are.
