Drenka Tel Miqne is a low mound, almost indistinguishable from Kibbutz Ramat Rahel’s cotton and wheat fields, which both surround it and, at the time, covered it. Little did we know then that half the height of the tell was masked by the sediment from a nearby wadi; d much of the tell was simply hidden below the surrounding cotton fields. Ekron, one of the five Philistine capital cities mentioned in the Bible, is located at the site of Tel Miqne (Khirbet el-Muqanna') on the northern border of the territory of Judah.

The inscription was discovered in the Albright Institute of Archaeological Research Tel Miqne excavations of Ekron led by Seymour Gitin and Trude Dothan. The inscription is one of the primary documents for establishing the chronology of events relating to the end of the late biblical period, especially a possible late history of the Philistines.

Tell Miqne appears to be the site of biblical Ekron.
